Prim the Precious Puppy

Doesn't that sound like a children's book waiting to happen? Anyway, Prim has proved to be a great addition to our little family.

She is 8 weeks old, a mini Australian Shepherd/Jack Russell Terrier mix, and right now is just under 8 pounds. Ashlyn is still unsure about when Prim gets rambunctious, but she's only ever been around a cat, so everyone has to adjust a little. When Prim is calm, they are good friends.

Most of the time when Prim is awake, she is a little blur of energy.

But that matches our other little blur of energy.

It will take awhile for Ali to get used to Prim, but she at least comes out and hangs out in the same room. As soon as Prim gets close, though, Ali hisses and runs away. But she doesn't completely keep away, so we're hoping they'll be okay with each other eventually. And when Prim takes a nap, Ali will come up and sniff her a bit.

Prim seems to like it here. She doesn't seem to have trouble adjusting at all. She is already starting to be good about walking on a leash and isn't afraid to go outside to potty. Of course it's not perfect at all, but we can usually tell when she needs to go and we can get her outside in time. She seems smart (though the Jack Russell in her makes her a tad stubborn) and we think she'll be fairly easy to train. We're already very impressed with her progress. It's very comforting to know she will probably not be too much of a pain with that.

She's only 8 weeks old so of course she likes to nibble and is just all over the place, but when she calms down, you can tell that as she gets a little older she'll be a sweet, cuddly dog.

  1. Oh my goodness, Ali looks HUGE compared to Prim! She's a big cat! Very cute pictures. I'm a little jealous of all your green grass. The grass here is still half dead, the weather is getting a lot warmer so hopefully it won't be long until we have green grass again!
