She also learned to do a few new things. She lifts her foot completely off the ground now when she's standing up instead of just sliding it around. She first did it when she was standing up by the couch so it looked like she was trying to climb onto the couch. She also took a few steps while holding on! Our first glimpse of her cruising!
After a little while, she was chasing Ali and Ali ran upstairs. (Of course not too far, just out of reach of Ashlyn but still in view. She doesn't like to go TOO far. :) ) Anyway, so Ashlyn went to the stairs to try and get her, as usual. Now that she is a little taller and can also lift her foot completely off the ground, she is getting very close to climbing the stairs.
She also did another thing. She points all the time, and has for quite awhile now, but she never really seemed to point at stuff to let us know what she needs or wants. She'll point at the cat and the picture on the calendar when we're eating, but other than that it always seemed pretty random. But today after she was done trying to climb the stairs, she turned around and started to try and crawl over me. There is just enough space by the stairs for me to sit and catch her if she falls, but not a whole lot of extra room. It was obvious she was trying to get to the water bottle that was on the floor behind me. She LOVES to play with water bottles. So after a few seconds she realized she couldn't quickly get past me, so she sat back and pointed to the water bottle! I moved right away and she went and got the water bottle. I really hope she keeps that up! So, like I said, she totally just grew by a month or so overnight! We are so proud of her. :)
Aaron also had a surprise for Ashlyn's 1st birthday and he brought it home today. He had someone clean and paint a conch shell for her. It turned out so beautifully! Here is a picture of the whole thing...
... and a few close-ups!
We hope you all are having a wonderful evening!
That's a great birthday present and it looks beautiful. We had a flag flown on Brooke's birthday. We thought that would be nice for her. Did you guys find this shell?
ReplyDeleteThat is so neat that she has started cruising! It's amazing how much and how fast they learn stuff! And pointing at what she wants?! That is too cool! I hope Dawson starts doing that soon, but he hasn't shown any interest in pointing at all yet.
ReplyDeleteAnd I love that shell! It's beautiful!!!
We didn't find this particular shell. A friend gave it to us. We have other shells that we had cleaned up that Aaron found himself while snorkeling, though. He wants to get one like this for our wedding anniversary, but he wants to wait until next year so it is on a shell he finds.
